“When designing jewellery, I feel like a child in a sandpit who can mould anything out of the sand. I love designs and designing, and I love the feeling when I get inspired and get striking ideas.

My jewellery is simple and minimalist. It is modern, yet timeless. In the finishing touches of my jewellery, you can clearly see my multicultural background.

I moved to Finland from Indonesia in 1997. I immediately fell in love with the nature and architecture of Finland. I noticed that their simplicity and minimalism represent a great richness and exoticism, exactly as decorativeness does in my country Indonesia.

My path in jewellery design came about by chance. After high school, I wanted to study architecture but I ended up studying precious metals in the vocational school of Sydväst in Tammisaari, Finland. While studying there, I realized that my true ambitions lied in design and I decided to pursue this path in the Lahti Institute of Design. I graduated as a designer in 2007 from the department of Jewellery and Silver Design.

I enjoyed my studies very much. I was involved in many interesting school and work projects. During my studies, I started my own company Gina Bulgamin and produced my own designs in the premises of Galleria Koru in Helsinki.

Some notable achievements and projects during my studies include designing the prizes for the annual Kultajyvä competition organized by Suomen Markkinointiliitto (the Finnish marketing federation), a third place in the Young Designers category of the 2005 Faberge jewellery design competition and a jewellery design project for the 100-year anniversary of The Finnish Goldsmith Association, also in 2005. Further achievements that have given me great pleasure include seeing my jewellery on a presenter of the Finnish Broadcasting Company YLE at the Finnish Independence Day Gala at the President’s Palace in 2005 as well as witnessing a two-metre version of my competition piece in the courtyard of Korjaamo Culture Factory after participating in the Pukkilan Kadunkaluste design competition.”
